LAKE BUOYS

On July 3, 2007 Valparaiso University Assistant Chemistry Professor, Dr. Jon Schoer realized a project of launching a monitoring buoy in Flint Lake. V.U. interns Jeff Field and Lindsey Gilman, with assistance from Valparaiso Lakes Area Conservancy District (VLACD) board member Ed Schwuchow, General Manager Bob Minarich and employee Joe Mitol successfully placed the buoy near the outlet of Flint Lake. Valparaiso Lakes Area Conservancy District provides water and sewer service to over 1000 residents in northern Center and southern Liberty townships.

The buoy will be able to transmit readings of P.H., temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity and other conditions so as to help pinpoint factors affecting the lake. This will provide significant data for those organizations studying the changing conditions of the lake. Valparaiso Lakes Area Conservancy District, Valparaiso University, Valparaiso Chain of Lakes Watershed Group and several private donors have donated time and money, or both to make this project succeed.
